A male blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery that removes excess skin, wrinkles, and fatty deposits around the eyelids.
Male eyelid surgery is a very popular procedure amongst men from the ages 30 to 70 to give them a more alert, youthful, and masculine appearance. Overhanging upper eyelid skin and bulging lower eyelid fat pads convey a tired fatigued appearance. Male cosmetic eyelid surgery can have a profound effect on a man’s overall facial appearance and can provide a new sense of confidence in social and business settings.
Dr. Felice and Dr. Karcutskie have extensive experience in performing male upper and lower eyelid lift surgery. Together, they have performed hundreds of blepharoplasty cases throughout their careers. Before eyelid surgery, Dr. Felice and Dr. Karcutskie will outline a customized, detailed plan that considers your unique features to achieve an optimal surgical outcome.
The surgical goals for male eyelid surgery differ in some respects from female patients. Men typically want to achieve a natural, unoperated masculine appearance. Dr. Felice and Dr. Karcutskie have the knowledge, experience, and technique to avoid effeminizing your upper eyelid. Meticulous pre-operative planning is the first key step that will ultimately preserve desirable masculine upper eyelid characteristics.
Dr. Felice and Dr. Karcutskie preoperatively measure the dimensions of the upper eyelid to achieve symmetry and determine the exact amount of skin that can be safely removed without compromising your ability to close your eyelids. These careful steps ensure the best aesthetic and functional results. If bulging fat of the upper eyelid is present, a precise removal or redistribution of fat will be performed to avoid creating an over-resected hollow appearance.
Lower eyelid surgery for men focuses on addressing prolapsed fat. The eyelid fat can be trimmed through an 'invisible' inner lower eyelid incision, or the bulging fat may be preserved and transferred into hollow deficient areas. If significant skin laxity of the lower eyelid is present, this can be improved with laser resurfacing or chemical peels.
How do I decrease bruising after a blepharoplasty?
At the time of the preoperative consultation, Dr. Felice, Dr. Karcutskie, and their nursing staff will review your medical history, including all medications, supplements, and homeopathic drugs that should be avoided before surgery. Dr. Felice and Dr. Karcutskie strongly recommend that all anticoagulant medications be discontinued two weeks before your scheduled procedure.
The list of drugs to avoid is extensive, and we will provide you with that list. A partial list includes aspirin (including baby aspirin), Advil, Motrin, all non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, fish oil, vitamin E (which may be contained in your multivitamins), and many other drugs and supplements. A complete blood count will also help our staff determine whether you have adequate platelets needed for proper coagulation.
When will my sutures be removed?
The upper eyelid sutures will be removed in five to seven days following surgery and the lower eyelid sutures will absorb by themselves.
Surgery lasts from one to two and a half hours depending upon the complexity of the problems. Post-operative recovery is approximately forty-five minutes.
Swelling and bruising are minimized with special techniques. Ice compresses and antibiotic eye drops are applied four times a day. You may shower. Discomfort is almost gone.
Swelling and bruising progressively diminishes. Continue antibiotic drops.

Swelling continues to diminish. Make-up may be applied .Incisions are healed but remain pink for several weeks.
